Trail
of Tears
By
Lisa Dudley
I have a photograph taken long ago, in Oklahoma
Of my mother’s great grandmother before she died
And passed on down to me her amazing story
She walked the trail of tears and she cried
Verse.2:
Well her name was Grace and
she walked to Oklahoma
Over a thousand miles -- So many died
There were guns and no one could run
No one could hide from the soldiers
She walked the trail of tears and she cried
Chorus:
She cried, “Always, and
always, and always remember
Tell your children what was done”
Verse.3:
I am Cherokee--my people walked to Oklahoma
Barefoot in the snow, So many died
But my mother’s great-grandmother
Had giant angels watching over
She walked the trail of tears and she cried
Chorus
Verse.4
I have a photograph taken long ago, in Oklahoma
Of my mother’s great grandmother before she died
And passed on down to me her amazing story
She walked the trail of tears and SURVIVED
